Suppose you could tell someone the most important lesson you
have learned in your life.  Identify that lesson, and give three
reasons to support why it is important.
By: Samantha Westheider

The most important lesson I’ve learned is the importance of high school. In today’s society you have to have an
education to get any type of job. In addition to that, school doesn’t just teach math and science, it teaches life skills.
Without a high school diploma, in my opinion, people don’t take you seriously or really give you the respect that
graduates deserve.

Today’s economy is so bad that even fast food places don’t need to hire just anyone who walks through the
door. So many people are struggling for a job that employers can be picky and hire the person who finished high
school and has more knowledge. As a result the people who aren’t really qualified to do even the simplest jobs
become poor and rely on the government to support them instead of just finishing high school.

High school doesn’t only teach things like math and science, it helps with life skills such as parenting,
punctuality, responsibility, and even how to manage your home. There are many different classes available in most
schools such as: life skills, child development, cooking and nutrition, and business management. All of these things
prepare you for life, and without them your life could be a lot harder than necessary.

Without a high school diploma, in my opinion, people don’t take you seriously or really give you the respect that
graduates deserve. People judge you and don’t think you really know anything and lots of people look down on you.
In addition to all that, you can't really be a good role model to children because if you didn’t follow through with your
education they’ll think its ok not to also.

The most important lesson I’ve learned is the importance of high school. In today’s society an education is the
only way to get a job. Also school teaches you mare than just math and science it teaches you life skills. Lastly
without a high school diploma many people wont take you seriously and you don’t get the respect that graduates
deserve. All of these reasons are just a few that describe why high school is so important.

Do nice guys always finish last?  By: John Shelton

Nice guys don’t finish last. If you treat people well you have a better chance of success. Also if you are nice to people
you will probably make more friends. Another reason nice guys don’t finish last is they don’t cheat or take short cuts,
they take life how it is. That is why I believe nice guys don’t finish last.

When you treat someone well you have a better chance of success. If you go to a job interview the boss will see that
you are a good person and a hard worker. He will most likely hire you. Also, if you are a good person and try not to do
bad to others, you will succeed to gain their trust. Another way to succeed is to work hard all your life. So that is the
reason why if you treat someone good you will have a better chance of success.

If you are a nice guy you will probably have a lot of friends. The nicer you are to people the more they will want to be
around you. Also, if you are a good to them they will most likely return you the favor. Another way being a nice guy
helps you to get friends is because people will tell other people that you are a good guy and that will make them want
to be your friends. That is how being a nice guy can help you get friends.

Another reason why nice guys don’t finish last is because they don’t cheat or take short cuts. They take life how it is
and deal with their problems head on. If you don’t take short cuts through life, then it will make you a stronger person.
Also if you don’t cheat people will think you are a reliable person. Now you know why you shouldn’t cheat or take short
cuts.

These are my reasons why I don’t believe nice guys finish last. You should always treat people with respect and you
will get the same back. Also you will have a better life being a nice guy. I hope that if you don’t treat others well you will
change your attitude. I hope more people will start to be a nice guy because they don’t finish last.

What is one goal in my life? By: Sarah O'Connell

My goal in life is to make it into the Air Force. This is my goal because it will push me to a place in life that I can stand
on my own. Another reason is because it will help put me through college. My last reason is because it will teach me
responsibility. These are my reasons for wanting to go into the Air Force.

The Air Force will push me to stand on my own. It will do this by teaching me finance, making my mind strong, and by
not giving up. The Air Force will teach me finance by teaching me math in a difficult way, which will challenge me. It will
make my mind strong by putting me through obstacles that I would go through in a serious situation. Lastly, they'll
teach me not to give up. This will only happen if I believe in myself and what I'm capable of. This is how the Air Force
will push me to stand on my own.

The Air Force will help put me through college. The Air Force will pay for up to four years of your collage. Since my
dad can't put me through my schooling, the Air Force will help me out. Also, they have a great academy they could put
me through that will teach me everything to do with the field I'm signed up for. This is how they will help put me through
college.

My last reason is they will teach me responsibility. The Air Force would do this by not just pushing my mind, but by
physically motivating me to do my best. Once they do that, they base you in a state that I pick, give me an apartment,
and then I'll be on my own. They will give skills I'll need to get an excellent job and how to maintain it. This is how they'll
teach me responsibility.

My goal is to make it into the Air Force. This is my goal because it will push me to a place in life where I can stand on
my own. Another reason is because it will put me through college. My last reason is it will teach me responsibility.
These are my reasons for wanting to go to the Air Force.

What does my GED mean to me? By Joey Winn

When you ask me what does my GED mean to me, I will tell you this.  I believe the GED is very important.  Without a
GED, it's hard to find a good job.  Two, it gives you a second chance at a good education if you can't make it in high
school.  Lastly, I think it's important because it helps you get into college.

My first reason my GED is important to me is because without a GED or a high school diploma, it's hard to find a good
job.  For example, if you apply for a job and you don't have a GED or a diploma and another person trying to get the
same job does, chances are they will get that job.

The next reason I believe a GED is important is because it gives you another chance at a good education.  When I
dropped out of high school, I thought I that I had lost my chance at an education and what education I had was as good
as it was going to get.  This was until I found out about and  started GED classes.  Now, not only am I improving my life,
but my teachers found out what I didn't learn in school and have now taught me more and built upon my skills.

My last reason my GED is important to me is because it will help me to get into a nice college.  I believe this is very
important because now that I can see I can succeed, I don't want to stop at just my GED.  I want to go to college and be
a very successful person in this world.

So when you ask me what my GED means to me, I will tell you that I believe it is important for three reasons.  It helps
you find a good job.  It gives you a second chance at a good education.  Lastly, it helps you to get into a good college.
Once you get your GED, there's no telling how far you will go.

Why I Need to Get Motivated!  By Chris Humphrey

The change I would make in my daily life is to become more motivated. I want to become motivated to find a job. I want
to be able to save money so that I can get out of my family's home, and get my own place. The most important change
after becoming more motivated is to get my act together, get a job, graduate from EEAEC, and go to college.

I want to get more motivated so that I can find a job. The reason is I'm tired of going without my own money. In other
words, I'm tired of asking for money from my family. I want to just be able to buy myself something when I want it.

Everyone wants to be able to just buy clothes, shoes, food, hats, and even books, but you can't do much without a job.
It is good to have a job to be able to buy things, however it is also good to be able to save money. The reason I want to
be able to save up money is so that now that I am 18, I can get out of my family's house, and get my own place. I can
have my own rules and be able to do stuff I can't do in my family's home. I would rather have my own place so I can get
ready for my own life.

The most important reason I want to get more motivated is to graduate from The East End Center and go to college.
There are so many reasons why I want to go to college. The biggest reason is I do not want to live like most of my
family.  They are in debt and work twelve hours everyday just to survive. I don't want my future kids to live like I had to.
Constantly moving, never staying in one home, and never feeling secure is why I want to graduate from The East End
Adult Education Center and go to college.

These are the things I want to change in my daily life. I want to get more motivated so I can get my life on track.  I kind
of veered off course but I'm getting back on track so I can go to college and have a good job and a good life.

A Positive Change in My Life *   By Joey Winn

One positive change in my life I think I should make is improving my attendance at school. By improving my
attendance, I will receive better grades. This will enable me to attend a good college. In turn I will obtain a rewarding
career.

It is a fact that students who attend school everyday or almost everyday make decent to good grades. The reason for
this is if you come to school everyday you never miss any important information about the lesson.

Another reason I think improving my attendance is a good idea is that it will enable me to get into a good college.
College is really important in this world. For example, if you go to get a job and you have a college degree and the
other person trying to get the job only has a high school diploma, chances are, you will get the job.

My last reason I think improving my attendance will be a good change in my life is so I will be able to obtain a rewarding
career in the future. This will enable me to support my future family with the things we all will need. We will be able to
go on vacations and travel to different places around the world.

In conclusion, one positive change in my life would be to improve my attendance because it will enable me to get better
grades, get my GED, get into a good college, and have a rewarding career in the future.

One Positive Change in My Life * By Chris Schaffer

If I could make one positive change in my daily life, that change would be to quit smoking cigarettes.  Cigarettes are
very harmful to your health, and are cancerous.  The lack of energy I have, like having to catch my breath more often
while working or jogging, is straining on my body and lungs.  The least important reason to quit smoking, but still
serious, is the money I'll save.

It is a scary thought to have lung, throat, or stomach cancer later in life because of a bad habit.  A lot of people I know
smoke cigarettes, including my family members.  I see my father coughing vigorously all the time from smoking.  I
stayed with my grandfather the last few months he was alive through lung cancer.  It was one of the most awful things
you can witness, and it was from smoking cigarettes.  I promised myself I would quit.

At some of my job sites, while working hard, I catch myself panting, out of breath and needing to take a break.  I sit
down and catch my breath, drinking my water, so worn out from the hard work.  Only half of the day is through and I'm
so tired.  This is all because of my bad habit of smoking.  I ignorantly light myself another cigarette before returning to
work.  After work, in the evenings, if I want to take a nice, long jog in the cool night air, I find myself back at home
before an hour.  I am out of breath and my lungs are hurting.

I smoke about a pack of cigarettes a day, and they are not cheap to buy.  I could spend five dollars a day, or thirty
dollars a week, and an average of fourteen hundred dollars a year alone on cigarettes.  That is a lot of money to
spend on a bad habit.

I should quit smoking as soon as possible for many reasons.  I want to grow older some day and not worry about sitting
down after five minutes of playing ball with my grandchildren.  I wouldn't want someone having to take care of me if I
happen to get cancer.  At the end of each year, I would like to buy great gifts for everyone in my life instead of wasting
money on a bad habit.  So the one positive change I would make in my life is to quit smoking.
In order to pass the GED test, each
student has to write an essay.  Here
are a few essays that students have
written in order to prepare for the test:
