East End Adult Education Center
Annual Report

As you know, The East End Adult Education Center has
been turning lives around for 38 years.  This past year
we served 123 students and 21 achieved their GED
Diplomas, with 3 more students passing over the
summer. Every student that attended regularly
improved their educational abilities. This school year
50 students have enrolled and we continue to see
young adults that have dropped out of the regular
school system, due to learning disabilities, learning
issues, health problems, and family problems.  We are a high school for so many. We
teach these students at their ability level and they finally begin to succeed.  The
majority of our students are teenagers that have never finished high school and
realize that they need an education to start a good job, college or a new career.

The new campaign to keep kids in school reports, every 26 minutes a young student
drops out of high school. We are one of the few schools that serve these young
students. As we touch the lives of our students, we see that without a High School
Diploma or GED Diploma, the door to opportunity is closed. We encourage our
graduates to go on to further education, and many are opting for that. All of our
students are from low economic families, and we hope that education will lift them
out of poverty and keep them out of jail.  For many young adults that have dropped
out of school, their path leads to jail. We have many referrals from Juvenile Court,
and we are having success with those students also.  Most of our youth and adults
have never had a good experience in school. We try to change this, so they have
success on the first day.  They have dreams of attending college or starting careers,
and we help them set reasonable goals and set a course to reach those goals.

Again, thank you so very much for your past support. We couldn’t achieve our
success without the support of all of our donors. Our classes are free for our
students, so we must raise our entire budget in the community.  We hope you can
support us again. Thank you for your consideration.

High School Dropouts in America

  • Over a million of the students who enter ninth grade each fall fail to graduate
    four years later.
  • About 7,000 students drop out every school day.
  • Dropouts significantly diminish their chances to secure a good job and a
    promising future.
  • Each class of dropouts is responsible for substantial financial and social costs
to the communities, states, and country in which they live.

                                          Why Do Students Drop Out?

  • Presence of a Learning Disability
  • Low Basic Skills
  • Poverty
  • Homelessness
  • Lack of Family Support
  • Chronic Absences/Truancy
  • Health Issues
  • Juvenile Delinquency

                                       Impact on American Society

  • In just one year, the country can expect to lose well over $300 billion in
potential earnings due to dropouts from the Class of 2011.
  • If this annual pattern is allowed to continue, 13 million students will drop out of
school during the next decade at a cost to the nation of more than $3 trillion.
  • By 2018, over 60 percent of jobs will require some education beyond high
    school.

The GED Opens the Door to Opportunity

  • Obtaining a GED levels the playing field for employment and education
opportunities when competing against high-school graduates.
  • According to the U.S. Department of Education, GED recipients earn an average
of 5 to 11 percent more per year than high-school dropouts.
  • Colleges will accept a GED and many of our students have gone on to colleges
such as Cincinnati State, Chatfield College, Brown Mackie College, and the
    University of Cincinnati.

                                                       EEAEC Facts

Your donation will change the lives of our students.  Our educational costs are
approximately $1,500 per student.  Our ability to reduce costs and achieve success
with our students is due to our individualized approach.  At EEAEC, we are able to
meet the needs of our student population by providing flexible schedules, offering
day and night classes, and teaching each student individually.  Each student starts
learning at their educational level and progresses towards the 12th grade level. In
order for a student to take the GED test, their Reading, Math, and Language levels
must be at the 12th grade level according to the Test of Adult Basic Education.  The
GED tests students’ knowledge of Science, Social Studies, Reading, Language,
Writing, and Mathematics.
